What is switchgear?

Switchgear is a collection of circuit breakers, fuses, and switches (circuit protection devices) that protect, control, and isolate electrical equipment. Electrical protection devices are mounted in a metal structure, one or more of which is called a switchgear. Switchgear is commonly found in power transmission and distribution systems, as well as in large and medium-sized commercial and industrial facilities.
